2 lutego, w Polsce swieto znane jako Swieto Ofiarowania Panskiego, albo Matki Bozej Gromnicznej, tutaj, okazuje sie - swieto nalesnika - "Candlemas" ;)

Taka oto informacje znalazlam na stronie glownej intranetu Parlamentu Europejskiego:

In Belgium, France and Luxembourg this Sunday, 2 February, many people will be celebrating Candlemas – a day more likely to remind you of the delicious smell of warm pancakes. But do you know why pancakes are prepared on this date?

Candlemas was originally the "festival of candles", a pagan custom in honour of the goddess Brigit (or Brigitte). In the fifth century, Pope Gélasse I instituted it as a Christian feast commemorating the presentation of Jesus at the Temple (40 days after his birth - or 2 February) and the purification of Mary.

But when we think of Candlemas, the image that is more likely to come to mind is not of candles but of pancakes!

In Europe, Candlemas is celebrated mainly in Belgium, France and Switzerland. Traditions and customs are diverse and varied. Some people flip their pancakes using their right hand while holding a coin in their left for good luck. But it only works if the pancake lands back in the pan! Others place the first pancake they make on top of a cupboard, to ward off bad luck.

In Luxembourg, Candlemas remains the festival of candles - Liichtmëss - inherited from the torchlight procession that once took place. At this time of year children make lanterns and carry them from house to house, singing and receiving sweets and coins from their neighbours.
