Oferta praccy poza Luxem:
Development of the STAN database is still significantly delayed. Involvement in other projects means we are still finding it a little difficult to gain momentum. To help rectify this situation, an OECD vacancy notice was released today calling for an experienced SAS user, familiar with economic statistics, for a 9 month appointment: See Job vacancy reference 002127 at www.oecd.org/hrm/vacancies.
Please circulate this to colleagues who you think might be interested. However note that this is not a research post but will involve much SAS programming (with SQL) and data system testing as well as relentless data collection, data manipulation and data checking …..
Dear STAN users,
An official note:
"The last version of OECD’s STAN database was released at the end of 2005 (with data up to 2003). Since then, the growing complexity of STAN and related data sets, such as Bilateral Trade by industry (BTD) and harmonised Input-Output tables (I-O), and increasing demand for user support functions have greatly exceeded our expectations. This has caused our update originally scheduled in Spring 2006 to be seriously delayed. However, work on developing a new STAN data system, carried out by a strengthened maintenance team, is now underway. Updating of the STAN database is now expected to start towards the end of 2006. We thank you for your understanding and patience and will keep you informed of progress."
Please accept my apologies for the continuing delays in producing STAN updates and for any inconvenience caused.
More positive news:
Input-Output tables:
A new set of OECD Input-Output tables, based around the year 2000, is being finalised. I will keep you informed of how when they will be distributed but in the meantime we recently released a Working Paper describing their use: "Input-Output analysis in an increasingly globalised world: application of OECD's harmonised international tables" - www.oecd.org/dataoecd/6/34/37349386.pdf. This is a largely non-technical paper aimed at those unfamiliar with this field of economic analysis.
Bilateral Trade database:
With product trade data collection, validation and management now carried out jointly by OECD and UNSTAT, and a new integrated HS - ISIC Rev.3 conversion key (at least at OECD) we are in a position to generate Bilateral Trade data tables for non-OECD countries. Preliminary tables for countries such as Brazil, China, India, Indonesia and Russia were compiled for linking the new I-O tables (see above). Further work is required before release of final versions.
Structural and Demographic Business Statistics:
This new publication covers Structural Statistics for Industry and Services (SSIS); Business Statistics by Size Class (BSC); and Business Demography (BD) - information relating to business births, deaths and survival rates. For more detail go to http://www.oecd.org/document/17/0,2340, ... _1,00.html
Productivity:
For latest work on productivity measures at OECD see www.oecd.org/statistics/productivity. We are currently working on a 2006 edition of OECD's Compendium of Productivity Indicators.
EUKLEMS:
The EUKLEMS project is making good progress. www.euklems.net. The final database is due to be released in Spring 2007. An interesting paper describing the complex and diverse sources and methods used to compile employment and hours worked in National Accounts is available here: www.euklems.net/pub/no10(online).pdf
